Counselling skills from a Christian perspective

Counselling Skills course are offered at 3 levels (1,2 & 3) and within the Christian Framework/context
Levels 2 & 3 are accredited with through the NCFE Awarding Body

  • Level 1  -   Introduction to Counselling
  • Level 2  -   Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Level 3  -   Certificate in Counselling Skills

This course is suitable for those who wish to develop  counselling skills to use in their work or everyday life when helping others.   Within the Christian context, Christian workers such as pastors, youth leaders, pastoral  care workers /cell group leaders and other church officers who support individuals both in Church and the local communities.

 (12 hours) Counselling Skills
 

  • What is counselling?
  • Building a helping relationship
  • The importance of confidentiality
  • Self-awareness/development and its importance
  • Use of basic counselling skills
  • Active listening
  • use of Scripture & Prayer in the helping relationship

Levels 2
 (40 hours) Counselling Skills

  •  Working Alliance
  • Active Listening
  • Core Conditions & Qualities needed for helping
  • Self awareness/development
  • Giving  & receiving feedback
  • Support & supervision
  • Model of helping – skills used for helping
  • Exploring issues & gaining insight
  • Boundaries, Health & Safety
  • Internal frame of reference & empathy
  • BACP Ethical Framework of good practice
  • Beliefs & values
  • Differences and diversity
  • Equal Opportunities
  • Balancing Challenges with support
  • Setting goal to implement change

Level 3  Counselling Skills/Diploma in Counselling  (120 hrs)

  • Explore and establish boundaries/confidentiality & limitations
  • The Ethical Framework with reference to Counselling
  • Egan’s 3 stage helping model
  • Counselling Theory (Approaches to Counselling)
  • Christian Context of Counselling
  • Theories of loss & grief
  • Referrals Agencies
  • Counselling in Practice

 

Courses are held at the Gospel Express Academy Centre – Birmingham email or call us for more infomation
Day times:      Wednesdays/Fridays  -  10.00am – 12.30pm or 6.30pm – 9.00pm
However course can be offered with organizations on Saturdays
